12U TRAVELING TEAMS:
This year we are planning
for two 12U teams based on registrations, both playing in the Southern Minny
league that is run by the Austin, MN Park and
Recreation. This is a traveling, competitive
league that is Amateur Softball Association (ASA)
sanctioned. One team will be submitted to the
"Dazzling" division, while the other to the "Blooming
Stars" division.
The top 13-15 players for each
team will be selected during tryouts. Each team will
have 3-4 pitchers and 2 catchers.
Teams will be coached by K-M school
softball coaches or K-M college softball players or
qualified other.
Once the teams are set, following
tryouts, the traveling teams coordinator and team
coaches will have initial team meetings with parents and
players to sign ASA rosters, hand out schedules,
jerseys, and visors. Another goal of the initial meeting
will be to schedule team and semi-private practice
dates/times and coordinate rides so that all players
will be able to attend practices. The initial team
meetings will be held mid-May.
Any questions can be answered by the
traveling teams coordinator Brant Klepel by e-mail at
brantklepel@wwdb.org or by phone at 507-251-3726.
VOLUNTEERS:
We are looking for a team parent
coordinator who will identify parents to volunteer for
the following. In addition, the team parent
coordinator will work with the coach to identify,
register, and organize the team for tournaments.
We will be looking for an interested
team parent who could take pictures for the team and
submit team articles and pictures to the Dodge County
Independent (DCI) newspaper.
We will be looking for another
interested team parent who would plan the year end team
party.
It is also suggested that each coach
collect a copy of each player's birth certificate, as it
will be needed to verify player identity and age if the
team qualifies for the state tournament. Players must
have a photo ID for post season tournaments, so make a
notebook and keep the photos and birth documents
together. Great job for a "team mom".
GAME DETAILS:
Double header games will
be every Tuesday and Thursday evening for 12U Dazzling
and Blooming Stars divisions. Games start at 6pm.
The league starts the first week of June and goes until
the 3rd or 4th week of July. There are typically
no games on dates near July 4th. There will be
approximately 20-28 games for the league season.
Home games will be played at K-M Elementary school
fields and away games at other towns in the division.
Following are the 2007 details for the
Southern Minny league. The 2008 details are not
available yet, but should be much the same as below.
U12 - Two 5-inning games will be
played, as time permits, with a 5-minute break between
games. One point will be awarded for each game win in
the standings. In case of rain, 2 1/2 or 3 innings is
considered complete. Host team is home first game,
visitor the second game. Games will have a 6 run limit
per inning for all innings played. There will be a
minimum of 5 innings played regardless of the score, as
long as time allows. If the trailing team is unable to
catch up after 5 innings the game is over. The ASA run
rules are not in effect. Nights of play will be Tuesday
and Thursday. League starts June 1. Games shall begin at
6 pm and no inning shall begin after one hours from the
start of the game. May re-enter all players including
substitutes once during the course of a game. U12
pitching distance is 40 feet. Coaches are not allowed to
pitch or participate in the game except coaching or in
the case of an umpire no show then they are allowed to
umpire.
For more information, see
the
Southern Minny web site.
PRACTICE DETAILS:
Two organized team practices will be
scheduled each week (approximately 16 practices) and
held at the Elementary School Fields. Team practice
times will be scheduled weekdays during the morning or
afternoon at the convenience of the coach and players.
Each player will have a one hour
semi-private lesson (3 girls per lesson) scheduled
each week (approximately 8 semi-private lessons) and
held at the Elementary School Fields. Semi-private
lessons will be scheduled weekdays during the morning or
afternoon at the convenience of the coach and players.
Practice Times
UNIFORMS (Jerseys, Shorts, and
Visors);
In 2008 there will be a mandatory, additional $50.00 fee
for the purchase of traveling team softball uniforms
(jersey, shorts, and visor). The uniforms will be
identical and have unique jersey numbers (0-99) across
all traveling teams so that as players move up they
would not have to change or buy another uniform. The
uniform is owned by the player and can be reused in
following years. The jersey will also have the
players last name on the back. If the
uniform becomes small or worn out, then the player would
purchase a new uniform at the beginning of the new
season. The goal is that the player would not have to
purchase another or replace a uniform until they really
needed to.
Jersey number preferences are indicated on the traveling
team registration form and will be processed in the
order that the registration forms and fees are received
by KMGSA. If your jersey number preferences are all
taken, then you will be assigned the next open number in
the sequence. As long as the player continues year to
year on traveling teams, their jersey number will be
“reserved”. The first year that the player does not
register again, the
number becomes “available”.
Available jersey numbers will be posted on the web site
each year.
The fee includes a one-time, first
time K-M school team visor. Players who already
have the school visor will continue to use them.
Replacement K-M school team visors are available for
$10.
REGISTRATION:
You
are required to be age 11 or 12 on Dec. 31, 2007 in
order to be a player on the 12U team. This may include
some of the oldest 5th graders who are already age 11 on
Dec. 31, 2007.
Please fill out the
Traveling Registration form.
The registration deadline for
all traveling teams, 12U through 18U, is March 16th, 2008.
Fees will not be refunded after March 16th, 2008 unless the player
is not selected after tryouts. Any player wishing
to register after March 16th, or facing a financial hardship please
contact
support@kmsoftball.org. NOTE: We cannot guarantee any
traveling team registrations after March 16th, 2008.
TRYOUTS:
We will be having tryouts for each Southern Minny league
traveling team so that we can reasonably divide up
players for Dazzling and Blooming Stars teams and reach
our target of 13-15 players per team, with the ideal
number being 14. Our goal is that everyone who wants to
play traveling league can play. We will add more teams
and coaches if possible to accomplish this.
The tryouts are free and mandatory for all
registered Southern Minny league traveling players. The
tryouts will evaluate the individual player’s softball
skills so that the team players can be selected. The
selection process for each team includes input from all
of the traveling team coaches. The coaching staff,
together make the selections, and it is not done by a
single team coach alone.
A player must tryout at their youngest
team level that the player is eligible to play on. The
selection coaches will ask the player to move up to a
higher level tryout if they are being considered for
that team and the player is willing to move up.
The tryouts will be held at the K-M Elementary school
softball fields in two separate sessions, one for 12U,
14U and one for 16U, 18U. If you are unable to attend
for any reason, please contact Brant Klepel, the
traveling league coordinator, by e-mail to
support@kmsoftball.org. The dates for the tryouts
will be as follows:
Saturday, April 19th
1 – 3pm – 12U and 14U
3:30 – 5:30pm – 16U and 18U
Sunday, April 20th is reserved for the rain date
in case the April 19th needs to be cancelled. We would
have the same schedules as above.
Team rosters will be posted to the KMGSA web site on
Sunday, April 20th in the evening.
If a player is not selected for a traveling team, the
Summer Fast Pitch Fun League is a great option to play
softball during the summer and continue to improve on
their skills in a fun environment. Full traveling
registration fees will be refunded or the difference
between the traveling registration and the summer fun
league registration if the player has indicated that
option on the traveling registration form.
The refunds will be paid by the end of April, 2008. A
check will be mailed out to the address on record.
ROSTERS:
The Dazzling team is the
best overall team based on the tryouts. However, in doing so, we do not
1) have our target number of pitchers and catchers on
the Blooming Stars team, 2) give our pitchers plenty of opportunity to pitch
each week, and 3) maximize our number of pitchers that
could be available for any tournaments.
Therefore,
all registered Dazzling team pitchers and
catchers, and the overall top 6 pitchers based on
tryouts, will be listed on the ASA roster
for both teams (dual roster) so that the 12U coaches
have flexibility during league play in rotating 1-2
pitchers and 1 catcher per game night to help the
Blooming Stars team and still maintaining our player per team
balance for league play. This also allows the
coaches to invite from the entire player roster for
their team for any tournaments.
Tournaments are a topic for the first team meeting.
Since we have lost two excellent
pitchers, Bre and Erin, from our dual roster and
pitching rotation and we have a very limited number of
catchers, we now must expand our dual roster to include
all registered Dazzling team
pitchers and catchers in the rotation
to help the Blooming Stars team. Reference the 12U
Dazzling Team Roster and see the 12U Dual
Roster below. The Dazzling and Blooming Stars team
coaches will make out the rotation schedule for the full
season and distribute it at least one week in advance of
the first league game of the summer.
1) If the player
has a conflict with the Blooming Stars game night for
any reason, then they should work this out with the
Dazzling team coach as soon as possible to switch their
rotation night with another player.
2) If the
player can attend the Blooming Stars game night, but for
some reason cannot pitch or catch for all or part of the
game, then they should work
this out with the Blooming Stars team coach, and they
will still be playing with the Blooming Stars team that
night.
3) If the player simply does not attend the
Blooming Stars game night that they are scheduled for,
then they will certainly not be allowed to play with the
Dazzling team that night and will forfeit their
opportunity to play with the Dazzling team for the next
Dazzling game night as well. This will be enforced
by the Dazzling team coach.

TOURNAMENTS:
Dazzling Team - All players on the
Dazzling team roster, including the dual roster, will be
invited to participate in all of their team tournaments.
Since that roster number of players is greater than the
14 player maximum, there will be "regular" and
"alternate" players. There will be up to 14
regular players invited for the day or tournament, and
the remaining players will be alternates. Regular
players will play on that day or in that tournament.
Alternate players will warm up with the team, be in the
dugout, etc. just like the regular players. They
will probably not play that day or in that tournament,
but they may play, depending on the game situation.
Throughout the season, all players on the
Dazzling team roster, including the dual roster, will
have opportunities to be a regular player. Regular
players and alternate players for the day or for the
tournament are determined by the Dazzling team coach.
Blooming Stars Team - All players
on the Blooming Stars team roster will be invited to
participate in all of their team tournaments as a
regular player. Dazzling team players are invited
as regular players until the target of 12-14 players is
reached for the tournament. Invitations are made
by the Blooming Stars team coach.
Tournament Fees - KMGSA does not
cover tournament fees or any other tournament costs.
These are additional costs above and beyond the the
traveling registration fees for each player. Also,
the team coach is not being paid for attending and
coaching at tournaments. KMGSA recommends that you
pay the coach $50 per tournament or per tournament day.
The tournament fees and coaches pay is split evenly
amongst the regular players, and a nominal $5 charge for
alternate players.
For example, assume the tournament fee is
$170 and the coaches pay is $50 and there are 14 regular
players and 2 alternate players, then the calculation is
as follows:
$220 total - $10 (paid by 2 alternates) =
$210. $210 / 14 regulars = $15. Therefore,
each regular player owes $15 and each alternate player
owes $5.
The team parent coordinator for
tournaments is responsible for collecting all player
fees and turning them in to the KMGSA Treasurer. |
